This was by far, the best month since I've started, with savings of $529.87 this month alone! We probably don't need to buy more laundry soap for the next couple of years, and we are fully stocked up on men's deodorant and toilet paper, along with shampoo for both me and my partner. I have also been finding more coupons for staples (cheese, pop, cereal, soup, meat, snacks, etc) mostly through trades, so the couponing is starting to really cut into the grocery budget in a noticeable way. 

This may be a slower month, as things have been tight financially, the film festival is in a week (which I avidly attend) and I'm starting school again, leaving me less time for couponing. We are also getting a cat (!!!) which is very exciting, but will take up some of our finances and time, particularly when we first get him in about a week.

I'll try to be better at keeping this updated as the deals progress. So far, since starting in May, my total saved is $1,354.64! I've made probably about 20 coupon trades, joined 3 trains, and graduated from a small to a large zip-up binder. I've also put together a large gift basket for a colleague whose wife just gave birth a week ago, for such a minimal cost. I'll post pictures once it's assembled.

During my trip, I revealed my couponing to my sister and mother. My sister made fun of me at first, but got to profit from my couponing a bit: I gave her a coupon for almond milk, a Meow Mix FPC, and told her about the LaRoche-Posay deal at SDM. She got 3 kits for the price of 1 so far. My mother has said that she'll start saving coupons for me.

One of the best things about going away for vacation is the pile of mail waiting when you return. It was huge!! I should have taken a picture of it, but I was too excited to open all of the envelopes and get my coupons organized!

My total saved for the last two weeks was $27.19, bringing my total saved so far to $696.58! I hope this week will bring bigger savings.

I usually wait until the weekend to post my weekly deals, but I've had such a good few days of couponing that it deserves a mid-week update! I received my P&G coupons in the mail on Tuesday, and it's a good thing I did, because I got to take advantage of the Walmart Satin Care Shave Gel deal, and to use them during the Double Coupons Event at Pharmasave. That's right. Double coupons. In Canada! The fact that they held an event like that alone was super exciting. I wasn't well-prepared for it though, so it took a long time to get the little I got, and now my binder is a mess. All worth it!

I had an interesting trip at Walmart. First off, I was disappointed to see that they did not have the Kraft Dressing or the Lean Cuisine that I wanted. I really don't know where I will be able to use those. I did pick up the infant Tylenol that was on sale this week, as well as the Listerine for 2 for $8.00. I knew that the coupons I had for the mouthwash specified only 1 per person, but I had my partner with me and thought I would argue it (prompted by a forum discussion on MrsJanuary.com). First off, the Listerine scanned at the regular price of $5.79 a piece. I informed the cashier, who argued that they would end up coming up as $4.00 each in the end after she totaled the transaction (even though by the time I pointed it out, she had already totaled it). She was also a coupon scrutinizer and called over the manager to check out my Listerine coupons. By then, the line behind me was starting to fill up. The manager turned down the coupon, and I decided not to argue it (besides, I'm not sure how much luck I would have had with a manager, given that they do have the right to refuse coupons and I was pushing my luck already). She accepted one coupon, and my coupon for the Tylenol, but my total was still high. I decided to pay it, and see what would happen. Of course, she checks the receipt and realizes that the price charged was still $5.79 a piece. At this point though, I was happy to leave the line and go to customer service to get it rectified. Once there, I asked for the SCOP to be implemented, and was refunded for the first bottle and charged $4.00 for the second. Thus, in the end, I was charged $1.00 for two bottles. The customer service clerk looked annoyed, but hey, I have rights. And I sure as hell was going to ask for it after my coupon was denied :P. What a pain though.

Couponing Newbie

So... approximately a month ago, after discovering TLC's show "Extreme Couponing", I started researching how one would accomplish anywhere close to the savings shown on the show in Canada. I had always been passively collecting coupons, but was the type of person to simply use a coupon when it was time to purchase a certain item I was out of, without using any strategy. I've since started following a few blogs and coupon websites in Canada, actively hunting down coupons, making the best out of store rewards programs, price matching, using mail-in-rebates and most importantly, matching coupons to in-store or advertised specials to get the best bang for my buck.
